Diabrotica
Diabrotica is a widespread genus of beetles. A most destructive members of this genus, Diabrotica virgifera virgifera, has become established in Europe and can destroy significant percentages of maize if left untreated. Therefore the federal government, represented by the Julius Kühn Institute, and the federal state of Bavaria have set up the Diabrotica programme to investigate the rootworm and to provide for efficient monitoring anmd containment measures.
