German Fruit Gene Bank
The German Fruit Gene Bank has been established to secure the long-term and efficient utilization of fruit genetic resources in Germany and to ensure the availability of germplasm for research, breeding and fruit production as well as landscaping. It constitutes a network of crop-specific gene banks.
On behalf of the Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection, the Institute for Breeding Research on Horticultural and Fruit Corps in Dresden is the central coordinator of the national gene bank network.
The networks for cherry and strawberry were established in 2008.
