Institute for Application Techniques in Plant Protection
Head: Dr. Ing. Heinz Ganzelmeier
The legal provisions for placing plant protection equipment on the market have changed. The institute for application techniques is presently revising the system of testing plant protection.
Manufacturers can still have the suitability of their equipment tested voluntarily. Testing includes measurements on the test bench and field tests. The Institute additionally offers test procedures to assess loss-reducing features of equipment regarding drift reduction and rates of saved products. If a drift reduction demonstrably exceeds 50/75/90/99 % or the rate of saved product exceeds 15/30/45 %, an entry into the respective class of the Register of “Loss reducing equipment” may be made. This classification is of increasing importance as, e.g. also the directions for use regarding plant protection products refer to it.
Scope of tasks and fields of research:
Participation in the authorisation
Equipment testing
- Testing of plant protection equipment regarding drift reduction and economising plant protection products plus its entry into the Register of loss reducing equipment
- Development and updating of requirements and procedures concerning the testing of plant protection equipment
- Participating in the introduction of legal regulations for the testing of new as well as used plant protection equipment throughout the EU plus for the utilization of aircrafts
- Examinations on equipment-related innovations to reduce the application of plant protection products and the risk involved in plant protection as a contribution to the “Reduction programme chemical Plant Protection”
